In recent years, car modification has become incredibly popular amongst young people. This is due, in part, to the release of a number of movies and video/computer games that use modified cars. You may have seen or played any of the following:
The Fast and the Furious movies:
The Fast and the Furious was released in 2001, and told the story of an undercover cop, Brian O’Connor, who had a talent for street-racing and car modification, and was asked to infiltrate a street-racing gang. The second movie of the series, 2 Fast 2 Furious, picked up where the first movie ended, following O’Connor to Miami. The third movie, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, did not continue the O’Connor story, and instead moved to Tokyo and featured a new phenomenon – drifting. A fourth Fast and the Furious movie is scheduled for 2009.
Need for Speed games:
The Need for Speed series of games began in 1995, and has continued up until present day. To date, there have been sixteen different Need For Speed releases, the first being The Need for Speed, the most recent Need For Speed: ProStreet. Many games have attempted to copy the storyline and style of the Need For Speed series, but none have come as close to the original. The games feature beautifully modified cars and adrenaline pumping storylines.
Other popular games include: the Midnight Club series, the Juiced Series, the Speed Devils, the Street Racing Syndicate, and Tokyo Xtreme Racer. All feature modified cars and high-octane races.
